Web/Desire
The Web/Desire series began in 1999 with the first “WEB” piece, marking a sustained inquiry into how digital networks, human longing, and artistic making intertwine. The works reflect on creative energy as an inevitable force — something that flows, connects, and accumulates like the strands of a web.
“The web is both structure and metaphor — a lattice of desire, connection, and the unstoppable impulse to create.”
Across the series, Yamaguchi employs resin, wire, and mixed-media elements to build intricate, translucent forms that suggest neural pathways, social networks, and organic growth patterns. Each piece invites viewers to consider how technology shapes intimacy, communication, and the act of making art itself.
Selected Works
- WEB (1999) — The inaugural piece that launched the series, establishing the visual vocabulary of interconnected strands and luminous nodes.
- Web/Pray — Featured at the 2013 National Cherry Blossom Festival, this installation merged the language of digital networks with contemplative ritual.
- Interconnected — A body of work exhibited at Adamson Gallery (April–June 2014) and the Figge Museum (January–May 2015), exploring science, nature, and technology through web-like sculptural forms.
The series continues to evolve, reflecting Yamaguchi’s ongoing fascination with the invisible structures that bind us — biological, technological, and emotional.
